Wait for It!

Recently my children ordered a toy on-line.I told them their order would come in but that they'd have to wait. Every morning since then, they've been asking: Mommy, will it be here today? I've watched their frustration grow and their anticipation diminish. They've even questioned...Will it ever get here?

Oh...how I can relate to their impatience. Sometimes I wonder if God's promises will ever come about. I grow impatient in waiting...tempted to take matters into my own hands...wonder to myself Will this ever happen? Will God really come through? Will I really receive His promise?

Ever struggle with those kind of thoughts?

Habakkuk 2:2-3. It says: "Then the LORD replied: "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay." (NIV)

Friend, God is faithful. He fulfills His promises. Today, He reminded me of a few truths (that as Habakkuk 2 said, I want to write down so that we, as heralds, can run with it.)

  1. Don't give in to fear. Deuteronomy 31:6 says: "Be strong and courageous . Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." (NIV) The danger we face is to give up right before the break-through. But like Moses, God will part our red seas. Like Joshua, He'll give us the victory at Jericho. Like Abraham, He will fulfill HIS PROMISES, even if we don't see them in their full fulfillment.
  2. Rest in God's provision and remember the promise...the battle...the victory is His! In 2 Chronicles 20:15, "He said: "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's." (NIV)
  3. Renew your mind on Who God Is to renew your strength. Isaiah 40:31 says: "but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (NIV)
God invites us to make a sweet exchange...
  • He invites us to give Him our fear in an exchange for His presence.
  • He invites us to give Him our fatigue in an exchange for His power.
  • But His invitation requires our trust, obedience and surrender.
So, like my children, sometimes we just have to Wait for It! And know that God will do exactly what He has promised!

Today, I want to encourage you to consider and meditate on a thought A.C. Dixon once shared. He said: "When we rely upon organization, we get what organization can do; when we rely upon education, we get what education can do; when we rely upon eloquence, we get what eloquence can do, and so on...but when we rely upon prayer, we get what God can do.”

Spend some time talking with God. Invite Him to share HIS plans. And then, follow Him in complete surrender, knowing He who has called you is faithful to do all that He promised.
