A Flight of Faith

As I boarded the plane I quickly surveyed the aisles for my assigned seat. Within a few short minutes I had secured my location, carry on bag, and positioned my body against the upright blue leather cushions. The stewardess offered the normal precautionary declarations as we ascended into the vast blue sky...and the flight was underway.

I closed my eyes to thank God for our much-needed vacation and reflected on Greg's and my recent journey of faith. All the stretching, re-defining, and constant changes caused me to laugh as I entertained the concept of faith.

Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." (NIV)
Hmmm. Faith...Confidence in what we hope for...certain of what we do not see.

Faith led me to board a plane and entrust my life to someone I had never met. I thought about how I wouldn't see the pilot's face until the end of the journey. Throughout the flight I occasionally heard his voice from the overhead speakers informing me of our flight's progress.

Your estimated time of flight today will be...the forecast for today is...we'll be landing in approximately 20 minutes...

Funny...
I never feared that a qualified person guided the plane...
I never doubted their credentials...
I never questioned their experience...
I simply sat with an eager anticipation that I would arrive exactly where I had expected I would.

Friends, our life's journey of faith is similar...
God invites us to a wonderful flight.
He promises we will arrive at our end destination.
Though we seldom see His face until our journey's end...we can hear his voice overhead encouraging us... I am with you. I will never forsake you. Though you walk through the fire...I will be with you. In this world you will have trouble but be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world.

Today, my prayer is that each one of us will rest knowing that we WILL arrive EXACTLY WHERE GOD PROMISES. He is more than qualified to navigate our journey. His credentials, experience, wisdom, knowledge, power and ability are unequalled.

So, as Hebrews 12:2-3 instructs us, "Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." (NIV)
