Fed Up with the Process!

Questions filled my thoughts...Are you resistant? Frustrated? Fed up?

Yes. Yes. And, yes I am! I thought.

Allow me to get extremely transparent; may I? Lately, I resist embracing anything new. Even though God continues to open amazing doors of opportunity, each opportunity continues to reveal my complete inadequacies and areas needing improved on. Oh, I know it's all a process...but quite honestly sometimes I want to shout, "I'm fed up with the process!" I want to excel. I want to feel successful. I don't want to feel inadequate.


Ever feel that way? Ever want to feel successful? Ever grow weary of the unending process?

If we're honest, we all feel that way sometimes. All week people have written letters stating that they feel like giving up...looking for something that makes them feel significant.

What can we do in moments like these? What can we do when we've had it up to our eyeballs with trying to get better at something? Here are some thoughts, I hope they help.
  • Don't be so serious; instead remember what it's all about.
In Luke 10:41-42, Jesus said, "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed." NIV

When I focus on my circumstances, I get critical like Martha. I start complaining. I get uptight. The joy of serving Jesus gets lost in endless to do lists. But God wants us to relax. Laugh a lot! And remember to soak in His presence. In His presence we find contentment. In His presence we find strength. In His presence we find joy, peace, and favor!
  • Don't try to conquer, instead remain faithful to Him alone. (Jeremiah 29:13, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." NIV)
God isn't looking for our accomplished achievements...He desires our love. Scripture says, "Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' (Matt 7:21-23, NIV)


When I read this passage today I gained new insight...The people in this passage were so lost in their own accomplishments they missed God entirely. They got lost in what they did, what they accomplished, what they perfected, rather than what Jesus did, what He accomplished, what He perfected. Our only hope of salvation is found in Jesus. Our only hope of persevering and not getting "FED UP with the process" is when our focus is on maintaining our relationship with Christ rather our routine of responsibilities.
  • Don't worry thinking "What's next?" instead relish every moment.
In Matthew 6:34, Jesus says, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

My tendency to think futuristic steals the joy of what lies before me. Instead of surfing with my husband I get frustrated trying to succeed. Instead of writing books for the pleasure of it I get side-traced writing for the publication of it.

If so, ask the Lord to help you:
  • not be so serious and to remember what it's all about.
  • not try to conquer and to remain faithful to Him alone.
  • not worry about "What's next?" but to relish every moment.
Friend, find encouragement in this passage: Galatians 6:7-10 promises, "A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." (NIV)

Even Being Falsely Accused Proves Purposeful

A couple of years ago, I endured a season of great difficulty. Someone I loved dearly was falsely accused. Allegations insulted his integrity. I KNEW the TRUTH first hand, but watched powerlessly as contentious men attacked his character.

Attack me...is one thing...but to watch you attack someone I love is quite another. At times I was so angry I wanted to retaliate. What I witnessed was the evil intent of men!

But, through the process God taught many lessons and redeemed and restored the situation, kinda like he did Joseph.

As I reflect on Joseph's sufferings (thrown into a hole, sold into slavery, falsely accused, wrongfully put into prison) I can't help but stand in awe of his response found in Genesis 50:19-20:

"Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." (NIV)
Joseph's response makes me examine my own: Am I that abandoned to God's greater purposes? Do I hold grudges? Do I freely forgive people and their evil intentions?  Do I see all my life's struggles as pointing to something far greater than the immediate struggle itself? Even more, am I willing to endure tests that God allows to prepare and position me for the promises He's made?

I find great encouragement from the life of Joseph. His life certainly wasn't easy...there were times I'm sure he had to wonder if he missed God or messed up...but all of the struggles...all of the hardships...were part of a process that prepared and positioned Joseph to ultimately receive the promise God gave in a dream.

What is your dream? What has God promised you?

Don't be discouraged by the "holes you've been thrown in by others"...
Don't give up when men falsely accuse you because of your integrity to not give in to their enticement to sin...
When you feel like you're in a prison of no escape...God hasn't forgotten you...

"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us." (Romans 8:18, NIV)

Friend, no matter how bleak your circumstances appear. God has not forsaken you. You are not alone! God will vindicate. He will fulfill His promises. So, don't ever give up!

The Cure for Anxiety

Ever get anxious?

I know I sure do. But there is a cure for anxiety. Fear comes when we assume ownership over something we have no control of.

Sometimes I have to stop and simply ask: WHO am I trusting in? Myself? Others? Or am I relying on God's faithfulness?

Psalm 146:2-6, "I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God, the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them — the LORD, who remains faithful forever." (NIV)

I'm not sure why I struggle at times or get confused in thinking "I" can do anything. What arrogance! :) But...I am learning to respond quicker to anxious feelings...submitting them to God...releasing "ownership."

What do you get anxious over? Could it be because you too struggle with control? Have you assumed the responsibility of "results" and "accomplishments?"

Philippians 4:5-7, outlines the cure for anxious living, saying: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (NIV)

Friend, we have an Advocate Who wants to redeem us from "ourselves" and fill is with His Spirit and Life. So if you find yourself anxious, feeling overwhelmed by life's circumstances, wondering about the "what ifs" or travailing over the "if onlys"...take a moment to consciously surrender everything over to God again and with prayer and thanksgiving invite God to BE GOD in your life.

Actually, I think it's time for me to have my own private time with God...hope you do the same.

Sometimes I Want to SCREAM!!!

Incessant demands of "I need..." "I want..." "Did you..." "Would you..." Growing to do lists..."laundry, school supplies, dinner, and endless deadlines... Expectations, accusations, and even more recommendations "Don't forget..." "You should..." or "Why didn't you..."

AT TIMES I WANT TO SCREAM!!! But instead I retreat to a quiet place. A place where I receive encouragement, direction, and strength.

In Matthew 6:31-34, Jesus said: "...do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' ... But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well... do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (NIV)

He offers hope, help, and renewal in Matthew 11:28-30, saying: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (NIV)

Friend, do you find yourself wanting to scream? Tired? Weary? Then, join with me in a quiet place. Retreat to a place where demands and voices get quieted. Rest in listening to what really matters in a place where agendas, expectations, and achievements are forced to surrender to God's wisdom, direction, and love.

Overwhelmed? God's solution is to come to Him and receive strength. In a moment He hushes our concerns with the truth of Who He Is and reminds us that He establishes our steps. He encourages us with hope...after all...IF HE IS FOR US...WHO CAN STAND AGAINST US!

His truth breaks my shackles of needing to accomplish and conquer. His love whispers redemptive corrections and a loving Father's admiration and unconditional love.

How about it? Need a retreat? Need encouragement?

You can find it in seconds. He's just a simple prayer away. And, while you wait, while you remain quiet before Him...He changes perspectives and minimizes problems. So, what are you waiting for?

Call on the one who gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

PRAYER: Father thank you for your promise and gentle reminder found in Isaiah 40:28-29: "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. (NIV)

Let's Live our Life for His Pleasure

So many things call for our attention, but only one thing matters...that we live our life abandoned to God.

Five years ago, I began a crazy journey that required a ton of faith! God called me to live in three different States. Make my home in a city, hundreds of miles from my closest relative. He commissioned me to give up hundreds of thousands of dollars and a career filled with accolades.

I'd like to say the journey has been fun, pain free, or even easy...But then that wouldn't be the truth. I'd like to say I lived completely surrendered to God, never questioning or complaining about my journey...But then that TOO would be a lie. However, one thing is certain...what I have gained is a treasure far greater than what I sacrificed.

At the end of the day, what we give up doesn't compare to the amazing pleasure we discover when we live in the center of God's will.

In Matthew 26, when Mary poured out her alabaster jar of perfume, people scoffed. Ridiculed. Judged her actions. (People always will when the don't understand.) BUT Mary pressed past their insults and abandoned modern-day reasoning. She willingly poured out everything she had to lavish Christ with her love. Mary's alabaster jar was more than a simple jar of perfume; it was her life's savings. Her inheritance. Her promised hope for a future.

Friends, today, we've been given a precious gift--a gift called LIFE! The questions remaining are: How will we spend it? What will we lovingly pour out for Christ? Will we abandon our plans? Our agendas? And surrender our ALL for Him? Will we live surrendered to His call?

Can you imagine what might be accomplished if each of us lived completely abandoned to God? If we pursued Him with everything we had? If we honored Him completely in our relationships? Looked to serve Him in every opportunity? Parented with His wisdom? Loved our spouses unconditionally? Served co-workers with humility? Surrendered completely to His commands?


My heart aches for one thing and one thing only...that I might honor my God with my life. Sure distractions come and go...sure I make plenty of mistakes. I get side-tracked by my own selfish ambition...But today...I want to recommit to live my life to the audience of ONE! And bravely declare as David did in 1 Chronicles 21: 24, "I will not offer a burnt offering that has cost me nothing!" (NLT)

No matter what comes my way today...I want to accept the challenge to live my life for His pleasure, pursing every opportunity to offer Him praise! Will you join me?

God Accomplishes All He Promises

In Exodus 33:12-17, Moses said to the LORD, "You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name and you have found favor with me.' If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people."

Can you imagine the weight of responsibility Moses felt? Called to lead God's people...but with who, where, and how?

Life is filled with unanswered questions. Circumstances at times seem insurmountable. Sometimes even incredible opportunities can render us powerless!

Lately, I stand speechless before God's open doors. His vast vision overwhelms me! And, I relate with Moses' cry in Exodus 33:15, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?"

I know, unless God does it...unless His Spirit goes with me...I'm doomed to fail. There's no way, "I" can accomplish the vision...ONLY GOD CAN!!!

Friend, how about you? Do you feel desperate? Overwhelmed? Confused? Do the promises of God seem impossible? Do you wonder how they could ever come to pass?

Our cry, today, is no different than Moses'; Teach us, Lord! Let us know You! We can't do anything aside from your favor and provision. The task is too big!!! (Paraphrase of Ex. 33:15)

Thankfully, God doesn't leave us to our own demise. When we obediently follow after Him, He replies to us (as He did to Moses) "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name." (Ex 33:17, NIV)

Regardless of our circumstances or how impossible our tasks may seem, God is near.

So, what has God called you to surrender? What has He commissioned you to do?

Today, I want to encourage you that God will accomplish ALL that He has promised. In Isaiah 55:11, God promises "My word that goes out from my mouth...will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it." (NIV)

So, stand firm. Hold fast to God's promises! Consider His nature. And, remember WHO HE IS! YOU ARE NOT ALONE! And if God is for you...who can stand against you!

What to do in the Desert...

Israel's people tend to frustrate me. I look at them and think, what in the world is the matter with you? Can't you see the Lord's provision? Why are you so impatient? Ungrateful?

Yet, unfortunately, my tendencies remain the same.

While in the desert, when God didn't seem to show up quick enough, God's people melted their jewelry and fashioned idols to worship.

Oh, of course I don't melt down my high school ring and unwanted jewelry in the backyard to build a cow...but the "idols" I build are just as ridiculous.

My idol...plain and simple...is self.

I try to "make things happen. "When doors seem closed, I think to myself maybe if I just push a little harder. When something isn't "good enough", I think maybe I need to just try a little harder.

Don't get me wrong; working hard isn't wrong. But, when we attempt to do anything in our own power...void of God...it becomes idolatry. When we attempt to move mountains rather than wait on God's instructions we slowly inch away to follow after SELF.

Jeremiah 2:13 says, "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water. NIV

OUCH! OK. I know this is a little heavier message than most of my posts...I guess it's just where I am today.

No...there isn't a major rebellion in my heart to reject God, just areas where I've attempted to build my own cistern.

How about you? Any areas of your life where you're trying to build your own "storage of provision?"

Friends, our very best cisterns are cracked; and like Israel's, they just can't hold water. So what should we do when we find ourselves stranded "in the desert?" (We can learn from Israel and not make the same mistakes.)
 
Read 1 Corinthians 10:7-13 for a fuller look: 
  • Be sure to wait for God...don't take matters in your own hands.
  • Ask, "Where is the Lord?" God desires us to ask this question. Jer 2:5-6
  • Seek the Lord, asking: What are you trying to teach me?
  • Humbly recognize your inabilities and rely on God's.
  • Remain pure.
  • Obey.
  • Don't grumble...be thankful.
  • Remember WHO God Is.
  • Hold fast to HIS promise.
Friends, I know that desert wanderings are exhausting...but if we wait and endure OUR PROMISED LAND will be ours!

1 Cor 10:13 promises us that "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it." (NIV)

    Winning the Battle of the Voices

    A couple of years ago, my daughter came home from school crying.

    "What's the matter baby-doll?"

    "Nothing." Sommer replied.

    "Hmmm. Can't be nothing or you wouldn't be crying." I said, consoling.

    After a little persuasion, Sommer shared that a few girls at school decided to exclude her from "the popular" table. One girl in particular, seemed especially spiteful and said hateful words.

    We spent the next 20 minutes talking together about the messages we entertain. Who God says we are. And, how we need to choose to believe Him over every other voice.

    How about you? Ever battle with negative thoughts? Ever hear..."You'll never amount to anything." "You can't do that." "What were you thinking?" "You're so stupid!"

    I guess it goes without saying, but we've all heard the disparaging voice in our head whispering inadequacies and unworthiness.

    We all battle with insecurities. We all question our purpose.

    Today, I want to encourage you (as I did Sommer) choose to believe what God says over every other voice.

    But, what does God say?

    Ephesians 2:10 reminds us, "We are God's workmanship. Created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared long in advance for us to do."

    Friend, you have purpose. You've been designed on purpose for a purpose. Created uniquely for a task, special for you. You are NOT a mistake. You haven't MISSED God or MESSED things up. Sure we all make mistakes, but God is bigger than our failures...He's so awesome that He even takes our "Mess ups" and uses them for His glory.

    So, who you gonna believe? Who are you gonna listen to? You have a choice! Here's a few helpful hints to winning "the battle of the voices."

    1. Meditate on God's Word. Don't just read it. Pick a few Scriptures and commit them to memory. Recite them frequently. Post them in places you are sure to notice.
    2. Pay attention to your thought life. What do you privately whisper. What messages play over and over in your mind? Discard disparaging comments and replace them with the Scriptures you've committed to memory from above.
    3. Remember helpful hints of discerning God's voice from others, like: God's voice convicts it doesn't condemn. God's voice communicates peace. God's voice is specific not general or vague. God's voice is filled with love and is redemptive in nature.
    4. Forgive offenses. OK. Forgiveness? What does forgiveness have to do with "the battle of the voices?" EVERYTHING. Matthew 18:18 says, "I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (NIV) When we hold on to offenses they linger with us and pollute our mind. When we freely forgive, it positions us to receive mercy and forgiveness and frees us to think on what is pure, lovely, and of a good report.
    5. Finally, and most importantly, ask God to guard your thoughts and fill them with His own. Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.: (NIV) When we pray and invite God to actively participate in our day to day, He fills our mind with an overflowing peace that transcends our greatest capabilities.
    My prayer for you today comes from 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24; it says, "May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it." (NIV)

    Living with Regret?

    For years I lived under the shame and guilt of divorce. I felt unwanted and unworthy. I regretted discarding the voice that whispered "don't do this" to mere "pre-wedding jitters."

    Wow. Can I tell you living with regret rendered me powerless to press forward. I kept looking to the past with all the "Wish I would have...Why didn't I...And, If only I could..." None of these thoughts produced life.

    What do you regret? What do you wish you could change?
    The truth is, we all have regrets. We all wish we could press "the redo button." But, unfortunately, we can't go back and we can't redo.

    However, we CAN ALWAYS choose to restart. We can press on. We can embrace the wisdom we've gained and learn from our mistakes.
    In Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, Solomon wisely wrote, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven...a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance...a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away..."(NIV)
     

    Friend, you have incredible purpose. Regardless of your past mistakes, despite your current struggles, God has a plan for your life. God's grace is greater than our shame. More powerful than our mistakes. And our repentance ushers in His mercy and forgiveness.
     
    So today, be encouraged by Solomon's thoughts: Laugh. Dance. Embrace life. Search for God with all you have. Give up any entitlements to bitterness, regret, and anger. Keep what is most precious: Wisdom. Understanding. Insight. And, finally, throw away what discourages: Regret. Guilt. And, shame.
     
    Philippians 4:8 encourages us with these words: "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things." (NIV)

    No Internet. No towers. NO SERVICE!

    No Internet. No towers. NO SERVICE!

    I just returned home from visiting family in Missouri where they had "No Service"...and when I write, NO SERVICE...I mean NO SERVICE. LOL. (My husband lives 20 miles from the closest town, a town of 2,000 people.) I was forced to take a rest. I couldn't gather my emails. I couldn't post on my blog. My phone kept a constant message of "NO SERVICE" the entire time I was at his childhood home. Talk about frustrating, LOL. But once again, God taught me a lesson...

    You see, sometimes we Long for service...but feel like we get none. We become anxious...wanting attention...wanting access...wanting for something that just isn't available.

    Other times...we feel like giving up and wearing a "NO SERVICE" sign around our neck. Like when the kids call out "Mommy...Mommy....Mommy" for the 100,000th time; the boss man adds another "to do" on our already impossible list of responsibilities; or LIFE (in general) whisks another fast curve ball by us, as we attempt to swing with tired...weary...weighted shoulders.

    Friends, regardless of your situation, be encouraged; GOD IS NEAR. When you feel as though you've been left stranded in the middle of no where, with access to NOTHING...God has not abandoned you. His Word promises in Joshua 1:5, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you." (NIV)

    When you feel broken-hearted and as though the world has crushed your every dream...remember...Psalm 34:18-19 promises that, "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
    and saves those who are crushed in spirit. A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all." (NIV)

    When you lack the strength to press on, take a moment to wait and rest in the Lord; hold fast to Isaiah 40:30-31, remembering, "Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (NIV)

    This past week God reminded me that "NO SERVICE" is simply an invitation for HIM to strengthen me and remind me that with HIM...NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!

    So, be encouraged. DREAM BIG. LAUGH OFTEN. AND REMEMBER, GOD'S GOT IT ALL UNDER CONTROL...YOU ARE NOT ALONE! :)

    Day 477 of Giving Thanks
    I have written an average of 620 words a day for 476 days, that’s 295,120 words – words to describe what I am grateful for and to share the lessons and hope I have received over the last sixteen months.

    Of all the words I used through all these days, and with all the hope that these pages have displayed - there are three words that relay my life wholly, "Favored by God".

    “I am worth the endless love of a mighty God...” ~God in me.

    The word “gratitude” cannot even come close to what I feel about all that I have learned – my thoughts, my dreams, my hopes and my desires have transformed. We use words to describe things, and God gave us His word to share His promises with us, to share His purpose for us, to share His dreams and desires for us – He gives us His word to share.

    Yearning for His presence has become a moment-to-moment quest – finding a quiet corner, a bowed head, shutting the door or even a walk around the parking lot – that is all it takes to bring me from this world to heaven.

    • It is in His presence that I am most alive.
    • It is in the still, that I feel most moved.
    • It is moving me greatly toward life with Him.

    I am grateful for this lesson and this word of truth: I am to sing my praises out loud and at the top of my voice - for the enemy to hear every wonderful and beautiful word of a grateful and joyful heart.

    In silence, in the power of the Holy Spirit's leading to our mighty God and in Jesus name bring all my fears and anguish and pain in prayer - God is faithful and perfect in the dealings of our hearts – let it be spoken only between you and Him.

    Learning this one... The more I complain, the more I have to complain about... Focusing on eliminating satan from my circle of influence - because he really wants to be there right in the middle, adding gas to the flame, anxiety to the circumstance and negative responses from others... I know that as long as I keep allowing my anxiety to be spoken; they will not go away. But if I speak of the joy and triumph in my life, they will be rewarded with more joy and triumphs.

    Would You Like a Window or Aisle Seat?

    Every time I travel, a common question presents itself (either through on-line prompts...a voice on the other end of the telephone connection...or from the representative behind the airline-check-in-counter).

    "Would you like a window or aisle seat?"

    Notice how we're never asked..."Would you like to be stuck in the middle?" "Would you like to be positioned between to busy bodies who won't respect your privacy?" "Would you like to be smashed between two people who think your arm rest is theirs?"

    No. The middle ground is seldom desired. The middle ground offers NO notoriety. Its painful. Lonely. Frustrating. Finish first...Your rewarded. Finish last...your dually noted. Finish in the middle...NO ONE notices.

    Most of my life has been spent in the middle. Trudging away in the day to day routine...Yet somewhere in the middle, an amazing transformation takes place. Faith deepens. Character is built. As I researched Scripture this morning, I was moved to tears. Look at all the references to "in the middle" found in Scripture...I recorded my thoughts and life applications to each one in red:

    Joshua 3:17, "The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground. (NIV) (Though we feel strangely alone "in the middle ground" of life. God's presence remains with us. The stand we take "in the middle" impacts everyone around us.)


    Josh 10:13-14, "So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies, as it is written in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. There has never been a day like it before or since, a day when the LORD listened to a man. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel! (NIV) ( Smack dab "in the middle" of our circumstances God provides, delivers, and does the miraculous. He hears our prayers. God fights for us "in the middle".)

    Judges 16:3, "But Samson lay there only until the middle of the night. Then he got up and took hold of the doors of the city gate, together with the two posts, and tore them loose, bar and all. He lifted them to his shoulders and carried them to the top of the hill that faces Hebron. (NIV) ("In the middle" we have a choice...we can give up or press on. We can "stay in bed" or like Samson...we can get up and FIGHT!)

    2 Samuel 23:12, "But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great victory." (NIV) ("The middle" positions us to recognize, oppose, and strike down our enemy." Destroy "fleshly" tendencies. And, experience GOD's GREAT VICTORIES!)

    1 Kings 6:27-28, "the wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. (NIV) (God is present in every part of our life...the mountain peaks...the valley lows...and EVEN in the never ending journey of pressing past fatigue and feelings of isolation experienced "in the middle".)

    2 Kings 20:4, "Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him. (NIV) (God speaks to us "in the middle". He reveals His character. His love. His grace. His power. We learn to "HEAR" His voice as He fills our minds with His thoughts and truths, "in the middle".)
    Ezekiel 37:1-3, "The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" (NIV) (YES! God positions us "in the middle"..not to destroy us but to reveal the amazing. He tests our faith to refine us. Produce His likeness. And GROW our FAITH to believe that EVEN when all seems lost...GOD IS ABLE.)
    Mark 6:47-51, "When evening came, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." (NIV) (Being stuck and stranded, "in the middle" is scary. Often times we fail to recognize WHO GOD IS "in the middle". We don't readily recognize Him as our expectency to encouter Him "in the middle" gets distracted by our circumstances...BUT, "in the middle" JESUS comes to us, encouraging us, "Take COURAGE...IT IS I...DON'T BE AFRAID!")
     
    John 19:18, "Here they crucified him, and with him two others — one on each side and Jesus in the middle. (NIV) (Friends, Jesus knew the feelings of isolation and abandonment that we'd experience "in the middle"... and bravely left GLORY to TAKE OUR PLACE. The abolishment of sin took place "in the middle"...WE are NOT alone.)

    So, the next time you get "stuck in the middle" or someone asks "would you like a window or aisle seat...remember GOD'S LOVE and the TREMENDOUS MIRACLES He provides..."in the middle".

    God’s Voice Communicates Peace—It Doesn’t Leave us Fearful

    About six years ago, God led me to leave a lucrative career and commissioned me to do the work of an evangelist!

    “You have been spent for many things, but now I want you to be spent for me. I want you to put your hand to my task.” I couldn’t shake the thought from my mind.

    God’s peace soothed all of my questions except one; what would my husband think? I knew I needed to talk to Greg and finally worked up my courage.

    “Greg, we need to talk.”

    “Sure, babe; what’s up?”

    “I’ve been praying and feel like God wants me to quit my job.” I winced, waiting to see if he thought I lost my mind.

    Greg smiled, “Me too.”

    “What? You’re kidding me; really” I replied.

    “I’ve known now, for about six months, but waited for God to tell you; I knew if I told you, you might reject the idea.” Greg said grinning, happy I had finally discerned God’s will.

    As I look back at that time, I remember thinking of all the changes that lay ahead of us…but the comfort I felt from God as an overwhelming peace covered us and calmed our fears.

    So, today’s hint to discern God voice centers on peace; we discern God’s voice from our own, by asking: How does it feel in our "gut"? Does the thought or feeling fill us with peace or unrest?

    Even in the face of great danger, peace guards our heart when God speaks. Don’t get me wrong…we may have questions…we may even begin to worry…but as we submit those fears God will cover us with His peace and let us know…”YES. This is the way. Walk in it!”

    Isaiah 55:10-12 says, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sewer and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace…”

    God’s peace always accompanies God’s direction and helps us distinguish His voice from our own. The absence of peace is the absence of God’s direction. Our situations aren’t always pleasant but God’s peace always accompanies His voice.

    God moves us in peace. Our voice tends to worry about “the how’s” “the when’s” and “the why’s”. God always leads with peace, emphasizing “I will do it…in just the right time…because I promised to.”

    Jesus promised, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27) God’s peace accompanies His voice.

    If our message lacks peace or conflicts with the Word of God, it's not His voice. Godly impressions never contradict the Word of God or His character.

    God’s Voice Directs—It Doesn’t Confuse

      Isaiah 30:20-22, "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it." (NIV)

    I love the story of Noah in Genesis 6:13-19, “So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people...So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it..." And then God provides Noah with specific instructions about the ark’s construction, a detailed plan of what will happen, and instructions of what to fill the boat with!

    Similarly, when God speaks to us, His voice leads us toward something. It isn't idle or wavering. It’s not confused. God’s voice is clear, concise, and certain.

    Our voice may sound like, "Maybe if I do this...then this will happen." God's voice sounds more like..."Go do this...and this will be the result." Of course (sometimes) God tells us to choose, but even that is specific.

    One of the most beautiful thoughts God shared with me occurred during a season when I needed to make a decision. As I weighed the pros and cons and tried to listen to what God said, I heard nothing. I prayed harder. The harder I prayed the more silent He became, or so it seemed. Finally, frustrated, I threw my lists away.

    “I can’t figure this out. Lord, what am I suppose to do?” I cried out.

    The Lord quickly responded, “Julie, what brings you joy?”

    What? I thought.

    “What do you mean, what brings me joy?” I asked.

    Instantly I thought of Abram and Lot. In Genesis thirteen the two men parted ways and instead of rightfully declaring which land Abram wanted, He let Lot choose. It didn’t matter which direction Abram went, God promised to bless Him. The direction and land weren’t the significant factor; God’s favor on Abram was.

    Immediately I began to understand what God meant. After all, if my children wanted to play a sport and asked me which one they should play; I’d say choose. I wouldn’t care which they played; I’d just want them to enjoy what they did. God wanted me to enjoy life. He gave me permission to choose what I wanted to do. I couldn’t go wrong. All the choices I considered were noble; each had great worth; there was no “right” or “wrong” answer. I didn’t need to worry about missing God or messing up. My choice was no more complicated than choosing what I enjoyed. God gave me full permission and prompted my mind, “Choose what you want and I will bless you; my favor is on you.” Suddenly I sensed His direction. My heart felt peaceful and my choice became simple.

    Friend, God always gives us direction. If we don’t hear Him immediately it doesn’t mean He won’t. His voice is certain NOT confused. He eventually prompts our thoughts to bring us clarity and conviction. The important thing is to NOT make a knee-jerk reaction out of frustration or to take matters into our own hands. We must wait for the Lord and pray for His direction. When it seems like He’s silent, we need to ask for another way of thinking about our situation. God clears up our murky thoughts and point us in the right direction with His peace.

    Prayer: May all our decisions be direct today. May all confusion disappear. In Jesus Name, amen!

    God’s Voice Encourages— It Doesn’t Tear Down

    God gives breath to His people and life to those who walk on earth! In short, God's words inspire life! (Isaiah 42:5)

    I’ve watched so many people step out to fulfill the design God created for their life, but half way there, they fizzle out. They say comments like, “I can’t do this.” “I’ll never be able to.” “The battle is just too tough.” They stifle their efforts midway by asking, “What was I thinking?" and the lists go on.

    Boy have I ever battled these same feelings! Eventually after I sulk, for a short period of time, GOD overpowers the voices playing around in my head with HIS, and reminds me “Julie you can’t, but I can!”

    Our voice ponders our inadequacies and focuses on our abilities or the lack thereof. God’s voice encourages and reminds us of Who He is and who we are in Him. His voice fills us with hope.

    My dear friend Iva raised her child as a single mother. One day over lunch, she shared, “Oh Julie, my son was so head-strong. I remember one day we fought. He yelled and left in a fit of rage. I was so mad. So after my son left, I put on my walking shoes and went tromping off too. I told God exactly how I felt. That’s it; I’m sending my son back to His father. I don’t care if he doesn’t want to live with his dad and I don’t care if his dad doesn’t want him to live with him. I’m done!”

    I listened as she told her story.

    She continued, “Finally I quieted and God told me, “You don’t love your son.”

    She said, “What do you mean I don’t love my son? Everything I do, I do for him. I live for him."

    God replied, “You don’t love your son like I love your son. You need to love him unconditionally. Trust your son to me and I will help you.”

    As I listened to my friend’s story, I recognized her voice from God’s. My friend's voice whispered defeat, fatigue, and frustration. She tried controlling things in her own power. When her power dried up, she gave ultimatums. But God reminded her of Who He was. He pointed out she couldn’t do it on her own but He could, and promised to help.

    What messages are you entertaining today? Are they encouraging or tearing you down?

    Our voice tends to criticize or find fault with ourselves or others; God's voice nurtures and fosters growth. Our voice whispers, "You'll never achieve that..." God's voice says, "Trust me and I will make you ruler over much." Our voice says “It’s too big” God’s voice whispers, “All things are possible to those who believe.” Even in a rebuke God points toward growth and grace. His voice is specific and certain not general and confused. Be blessed today and remember, God’s voice encourages— It Doesn’t Tear Down
