Ever get weighted down by busy-ness? The other day I felt so bogged down by all the clutter surrounding me, I decided to spend the majority of my day simply going through old files, email messages, and the ever growing stacks of Crayola drawn papers and notes from my kids.
Freedom soared with each useless discarded item. It felt fantastic to “DECLUTTER all the unimportant things from my sight and to file away and preserve what was important.”
Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” NIV
Friend, God has a purpose for each one of us. He formed us and set us apart for something specific. YOUR LIFE COUNTS! YOU really do matter.
So if you are feeling bogged down; weighted with busy activity…Take time to ask God what His purpose is.
I coach people often a simple 1-2-3 step to hearing God's direction and purpose.
1. Ask Him. OK, now that sounds really deep and profound, doesn't it? LOL. But the truth is, if you're like me, life can get really busy and before we know it we have mounds of responsibilities, endless "to do" lists, and forget to simply ask GOD..."What do you will for me to do this day?"
2. Align your life. After complete step 1, we have to remove "Busy" activity and all the things we've picked up that God never designed for our life. God will never tell us to do something contrary to His Word...so as we align our life it is important to make our decisions with God's character and commands (found in His Word). Listen closely and then follow His lead. Remove old files of bitterness and regret, and preserve what is most important.
3. ACT NOW. Like the old Nike commercial..."Just do it." Live God's purpose right where you are. Don't wait for the someday...somewhere...somehow method of living. Live God's purpose where you are. Serve where you are. Demonstrate His love, mercy, grace, and presence right where you are. In a troubled marriage? Serve. Finances bottoming out? Trust and remain faithful with your tithe. Struggling with guilt, shame, or fear? Remember Who you serve and remember His promises. Abraham stepped out, not knowing where He was going; he never saw the full fulfillment of God's promise, but he welcomed it from afar and followed after God.
The truth is...We all need to do a spring cleaning now and again…and it always feels good when we do. So, ASK...ALIGN...and ACT NOW. After all, YOUR life counts. God said so in Jeremiah 1:5.
