In Romans 4:18-21, we read: "Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, "So shall your offspring be." Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead — since he was about a hundred years old — and that Sarah's womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised." (NIV)
I love this passage of Scripture. You see Abraham wasn't ignorant to his situation; he recognized that he and Sarah's bodies were as good as dead...BUT...he didn't let that shake him. He remembered what GOD PROMISED...And...by remembering what GOD said, he was strengthened in his faith.
When I read passages like this, it helps me to remember, that GOD is FULLY able to do what He has promised. It may appear that our bodies, our dreams, our relationships, or our hopes are "as good as dead", until we consider OUR GOD!
What dream has God given you? What has He promised you about your relationships? What has He whispered as a promise?
Take your eyes off your current situation and REMEMBER WHO GOD IS and WHAT HE HAS PROMISED.
Psalm 33:4-5 says, "For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love." (NIV)
And because God is faithful we can declare that, "We (will) wait in hope for the LORD; (for) he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. (And pray) May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you." (Ps 33:20-22, NIV)
Friends, let your hearts be encouraged...God will NOT abandon you. He sees you right where you are, and He is working ALL THINGS (the good and the not so good stuff of our lives) together for our GOOD! He can be trusted! His promises for your life will be fulfilled!!!
ON A PERSONAL NOTE, we move to Florida today. The movers will be here any minute. I will not post again until August 3rd. Please keep me and my family in your prayers during this exciting period of fulfillment! Ministry awaits, along with challenges, and a lot of unknowns...BUT...I am confident in God's provision and promises.

A Word of Encouragement
STOP EVERYTHING! Take a deep breath; remember WHO you serve. Halt your activity for just a moment. Quiet the ramblings of your endless "to do list". Listen to God's gentle words...
"Be still , and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." (Psalm 46:10, NIV)
No matter your circumstances, concerns, or crises you face...God is God...and I sense His gentle encouragement today...reminding me...to remind you...YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
He sees you right where you are. Your seemingly insurmountable obstacles are no challenge to Him. Through Isaiah 46:4, God speaks His comfort to our hearts, saying, "Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you." (NIV)
Need provision? God promises I will sustain you. Feeling misunderstood? God reminds you that He has made you. Feeling weak, like you can't go on? God promises He will carry you. Feeling weary from having to face an endless onslaught from your enemies? God promises He will sustain and rescue you...YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
So, take a deep breath. Meditate again upon the truth of Psalm 46:10, "Be still , and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." (NIV)
My dear friends...God can be trusted. I love David's declaration in Psalm 37:25, "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread." (NIV) God is with you. DON'T GIVE UP!
PRAYER: Father, encourage those who are weak with your strength...bless the ones needing provision with your favor...and rescue each broken-hearted and battle weary soul...I pray, in Jesus name, amen!

Waiting Without Worrying...
"True patience is waiting without worrying."

Oh I wish I could master this truth...How about you?
Perhaps you're at a crossroad today...Maybe you've been at this crossroad for some time now...The crossroad of fulfillment and standing your ground...The crossroad of saying yes to all God has called you to and waiting patiently to experience the completion of that call.
If that's you, you're not alone. As I step forward to say yes to God's call, I often find myself standing before another closed door...AND, once again...I wait.
But perhaps the waiting season is God's design to prepare us, to strengthen us, and to position us for our ultimate victory. Perhaps the waiting season's of our life produce depth and intimacy in our relationship with God, teaching us how to triumph over fear, and remove pride and self-determination from our life. God wants us to completely trust in WHO HE IS and WHAT HE HAS PROMISED for our lives.
It's when we lose "our life" for His sake that we find life. Paul wrote it this way to the Philippians, "But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ." (Philippians 3:7-8, NIV)
Gaining Christ is our ultimate mission...Our mission is to know Him...to be like Him...to glorify Him...but living out our faith is a process.
Paul continues to encourage the Philippians, "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:12-14, NIV)
So today, as you WAIT, I encourage you to forget what is behind and press forward toward what is ahead...press on toward the goal for which God has called you to in Christ Jesus. Embrace your season of waiting with the assurance that God is working ALL things together for your good....knowing He is faithful and will complete ALL HE HAS PROMISED.
PRAYER: Father, we simply ask that you produce your life in us. Open the doors you want us to go through without making us have to wait any longer than is absolutely necessary. In Jesus name, AMEN.

What is the Object of Your Affection?
What fills you with excitement?
What do you crave?
What do you crave?
What is the object of your enthusiasm?
The object of our enthusiasm describes our passion. Passion led Jesus to the cross. Scripture says He resolutely set His face toward the cross; He embraced it.
God's passion is you.
Isn't that amazing? Jesus loved us so passionately He willingly gave up His rights...emptied Himself...took on the form of man...and became obedient to death...even death on the cross!
Friends, we are NOT ALONE! And the only thing God asks from us is to reciprocate His love; to run after Him passionately; to lay aside every hindrance that holds us back, and to give Him our life.
During this last year, I've experienced a whirlwind of emotion; everything that could be shaken (in many aspects) was. Throughout my pruning experience, the object of my affection shifted; it changed from desiring to do great things for God, to desiring to love Him greatly. It shifted from my narrow mind set to embracing His wonderful "surprises".
In 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, Paul writes, "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." NIV
So...What are you running after?
The object of our passion has to be Jesus. God wants us to passionately say "YES" to ALL He has for us, while keeping Him as the center of our desire. When we substitute our affection, exchanging Jesus for a mission, a job, or a person, the object of our affection consumes us.
Jesus left us the secret to living life to the fullest; He said, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." (Matthew 22:37-40, NIV)
So, today, don't worry about "the ifs", "the whens", "the hows"? Resolve to love God passionately. Run your race with fervor, keeping Him at the center of Your passion...and watch Him work amazing miracles in you...for you...and through you!
PRAYER: Father, we say "YES" to all that you have for our life. Fill us with expectancy. Work miracles on our behalf. And, cause us to keep you as the object of our affections! In Jesus name we pray, amen!

Ever Feel Disqualified?
Ever feel disqualified? Ever feel as though God picked the wrong person for the task you're undertaking? Do you have the tendency to point out all your flaws and short-comings?
You're not alone...When God called Moses to go up against Pharaoh, Moses responds: "Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?" (Ex 3:11, NIV)..."What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The LORD did not appear to you'?" (Ex 4:1, NIV)..."O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue." (Ex 4:10, NIV) "O Lord, please send someone else to do it." (Ex 4:13, NIV)
In Jeremiah 1:5-8, God calls Jeremiah and Jeremiah responds, "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."
Human tendency points out weaknesses; we tend to focus on our areas of opportunity for growth, rather than recognizing our strengths.
BUT...God reaffirms us and encourages us through His Word:
"...do not fear , for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (Isa 41:10, NIV)
He speaks to us and reaffirms us as He did Jeremiah, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." ..."Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD." (NIV)
The truth is...all our what ifs...all our reasons for possible failure...all our short-comings would be relevant if we operated in our own power. Our excuses and feelings of being disqualified would matter if we needed to rest on our own strength...BUT...God has not left us alone to our own power, reasoning's, or strength...He has promised...

In Genesis 28:15, He says, "I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." (NIV)
So...TODAY...determine to walk out your election with confidence, knowing that if God is for you...who can stand against you...You will not fail...You have been chosen.
Instead of focusing on all the "what ifs" or wasting your time worrying about why you aren't good enough...focus on the truth of WHO GOD IS and WHAT HE HAS PROMISED!
Take a moment to thank Him for what He is doing and what He is going to do!

How Big Is Your God?
I read a story about Henry Norris Russell, a Princeton astronomer, who after concluding a lecture on the Milky Way, was approached by a woman and asked, "If our world is so little, and the universe is so great, can we believe God really pays any attention to us?" Dr. Russell replied, "That depends, madam, entirely on how big a God you believe in." (Today in the World, Feb 89, p. 12., http://www.sermonillustrations.com/a-z/s/significance.htm)
So...How Big Is Your God?
Today, I thought I'd share a few simple reminders of God's power; I hope these simple reminders encourage you as you face your day! :)
God creates by His spoken word--
Gen 1:3 "And God said, "Let there be light ," and there was light."
--Surely He is able to speak over our life and provide us with whatever we have need of.
Though God is vast, He is intimately involved in your life!
Luke 12:6-7 "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows."
--God sees you right where you are! He is moving on your behalf. You are not alone.
God delivers us from evil plans and sustains us in the midst of our trials.
Daniel 3:16-18 "Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king." And He did. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were met by the Son of God...right in the midst of the fire...and they remained unharmed. Not one hair was singed!
--So...if you are in a fire...know this...the Son of God is right there with you. His word promises that when we walk through the fire it will not burn us...the flames will not set us ablaze (Is. 43:2)
God delivers us from our enemies.
Ex 14:29-30 "the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left. 30 That day the LORD saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians..."
--As you obey and walk with God, He will be your defender. The battle is not yours.
I could go on and on, but it's Friday and we all have a lot to do.
So, let's conclude our week by declaring Psalm 77:11-13; "I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds. Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God?"
We serve an amazing God!
Let's NOT limit HIS POWER, HIS LOVE,
or HIS INFINITE GOODNESS TOWARD US!

The Battle is NOT Yours
I love the implications of 2 Chron 20:15-17, "...This is what the LORD says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow march down against them...You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you,...Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.'" NIV
I feel the Lord gently encouraging me...No matter how big your battles is...it's not yours to fight alone. Simply go to battle, take up your position, stand firm, and watch My deliverance.
Over the last year, I've faced some battles. I stood before my Goliath. Saw the vastness of his size. Felt the fury of his anger. Heard his shouts of my imminent defeat...but quite honestly...Goliath is NO match to the living God!
So,don't give up. God is with you. No matter the battle you face today, the battle is not yours; it is the Lord's.
Zech 4:6 says, "...it's 'Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit ,' says the LORD Almighty. "
Our victory resides in God alone. So stand to your feet and brush the dirt off your knees. Wipe away the tears of fear and dismay. AND choose to STAND again. No matter how many battles it feel like you've lost...God is near. And like 2 Chronicles 20 says, "Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you,...Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged...the LORD will be with you.'"
PRAYER: Father, thank you that you fight our battles. Thank you that no matter how many times we feel we have failed...You are always there to pick us up again. Let Your favor rest on us. Fill us with Your Presence. Give us the victories we need TODAY! In Jesus name, amen.

Our Promise Awaits
After Moses died (as recorded in Joshua 1) the LORD said to Joshua son to get ready to cross the Jordan River because He was going to give him every place he set his foot. God promised Joshua, "No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you." (Joshua 1:5)
Moses' generation failed to enter the promised land; they allowed fear to keep them from stepping forward into all God promised. So instead of receiving their inheritiance, a land flowing with milk and honey, they wandered around a desert.
Now Joshua stands before the Jordan River...will he cross over or shrink back? Will he in faith trudge forward or will he regress to fear?
Joshua is much older now. I'm sure he could have entertained many reasons of "Why Not"...I'm too old...the people are weary...we are less ready for battle...maybe after we spend some time preparing to go to war... But instead he heeds God's words to "Be strong and courageous." He believes God at His word. He trusts that God will lead give him the land He swore He would give to their forefathers.
How about you? What is God calling you to?
I encourage you to say it out loud to yourself today. Go on...say it out loud! If you're at your office, or there are a lot of people around, don't be afraid...at least whisper it to yourself. Reaffirm your spirit with the truth of God's word. Remember the promises He's given to you...
I often remind myself of what God has said by saying..."God has promised me that_________" (and then I fill in the blank). Or, "God has called me to ___________" (and again I fill in the blank). It may sound silly, but it's powerful!
I feel compelled today, like Paul felt with Timothy, to remind you to...
I feel an urgency to remind you as Peter did in 2 Peter 1:10-13; "Therefore, my brothers, (and I would add my sisters) be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body..."
Our Jordan awaits...Our Promised Land is before us! Times haven't changed much in some respects. We always have a Jordan to cross...an enemy's camp we have to battle before we receive our inheritance and the promise of God. BUT...we also serve a God Who does not change.
The Lord speaks very clearly to Joshua, and I believe His words are applicable to us today; "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:7-9, NIV)

Live Expectant!
I read a story of a man who approached a little league baseball game one afternoon. He asked a boy in the dugout what the score was. The boy responded, "Eighteen to nothing--we're behind."
"I'll bet you're discouraged." the man said.
"Why should I be discouraged?" replied the little boy. "We haven't even gotten up to bat yet!"
I love the simple determination illustrated in this story.
Perhaps, however, you feel as though you've been up to bat already...you've swung and you've missed. Maybe you feel as though you're in the last inning, the bases are loaded, and you're at the plate with 2 outs and 2 strikes...
If so, please hear this gentle reminder: regardless of your circumstances, God is in control! He will do what He has promised! You can TRUST HIM!
I never want the familiarity of life to squelch my expectancy, or my day to day routine to entrance me from looking forward to ALL God has for me. I want to live expectant, undeterred by the seemingly setbacks of life.

We are surrounded by God's presence. Scripture says He will give His angels charge concerning us (Psalm 91:11). He will NEVER leave us or forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). You may feel alone but you are NOT! God Himself walks with you. He will be your defender, provider, and will sustain you. He is close to the broken hearted...He saves those crushed in spirit!
So as the psalmist, David, wrote, "WHY SO DOWNCAST OH MY SOUL...PUT YOUR HOPE IN GOD."
This life is short; scripture says it is but a vapor, here today, gone tomorrow...the only chance we have to live by faith is on this side of eternity...
PRAYER: Father, fill us with Your presence. Remind us of Your truths. Fill us with Expectancy for all You have for us! We put our hope in YOU! Renew our strength. In Jesus name we pray, amen!

Hope Deferred...
Proverbs 13:12, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life." NIV
Broken marriages taint our hope for a happily ever after...the promotion offering such promise passes to another destroying dreams of financial escape...the doctor's diagnosis confirms our mortality...
Losing hope devastates the strongest of warriors. Without something to look forward to, dreams die; anticipation is lost; expectancy is obsolete.
God works according to covenant and promise! He is faithful! He is good! His love can be trusted! He will NEVER abandon you! There is always HOPE in HIM!
Psalm 33:17-22 says, "A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you." NIV

So how do we avoid hopelessness? By putting our trust in God. Many things can be taken from us, but I am convinced: "...neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom 8:38-39, NIV)
And God promises, His plans are to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future. (Jer 29:11, NIV)
Today, I encourage you, declare Psalm 71:14 to the Lord: "But as for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more." (NIV)
PRAYER: Father, fill us with hope. Help us to put our confidence in You. Thank You that You love us...will NEVER forsake us...and will work ALL things together for our good! We love You. In Jesus name we pray, amen!

Putting our hope in anything other than God
leads only to disappointment.

Perspective...Persistence...And NOW Perseverance
This week I shared about the power of PERSPECTIVE...PERSISTENCE...and NOW...we have to finish our week with PERSEVERANCE!
"Young William Wilberforce was discouraged one night in the early 1790s after another defeat in his 10 year battle against the slave trade in England. Tired and frustrated, he opened his Bible and began to leaf through it. A small piece of paper fell out and fluttered to the floor. It was a letter written by John Wesley shortly before his death."
Wilberforce read it again: "Unless the divine power has raised you up... I see not how you can go through your glorious enterprise in opposing that (abominable practice of slavery), which is the scandal of religion, of England, and of human nature."
"Unless God has raised you up for this very thing, you will be worn out by the opposition of men and devils. But if God be for you, who can be against you? Are all of them together stronger than God? Oh, be not weary of well-doing. Go on in the name of God, and in the power of His might." (http://www.sermonillustrations.com/a-z/p/perseverance.htm Daily Bread, June 16, 1989.)
All the powers of hell cannot stop the man or woman resting securely in the hands of God...No matter our opposition, GOD IS BIGGER!
I love John Wesley's advice...if we are not raised up by God we will be worn out by the opposition...but if God is for us...who can be against us?
I love the passage from Romans 5:1-5, "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance ; perseverance , character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." NIV
In all things we can rejoice, even in our suffering because we can trust in God's character and love. God is for us. He is working all things together for our good. He is making us, shaping us, and drawing us closer to Him.
So don't shrink back! Don't give up! Don't let heartache or disappointments rattle you. If things aren't working out like you thought they would...rest knowing GOD has something better planned! Exchange your desires and surrender to HIS! His ways are so much HIGHER...so much GREATER...than we could ever ask, think, or imagine!
I am learning that the key to avoiding weariness and dis-heartenment is to keep my eyes focused on Jesus--not on my circumstances--not on my abilities--not on my faith--but on Jesus. You see, my faith can falter; my abilities can fall short; my circumstances can change in less time than taking my next breath...BUT GOD never falters, falls short, or fails. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. I can trust His LOVE even when I don't understand His WAYS!
I pray today that you press on into all God has for you! PERSEVERE...God won't disappoint you!

The Power of Persistence
Earlier this week I wrote about THE POWER of PERSPECTIVE... another powerful characteristic shaping our lives is PERSISTENCE.
I may have shared this story before...if so...I hope you still find encouragement from it. It comes from the diary of John Wesley. . .
The pattern of my life lately is to WAIT! If you're like me WAITING isn't fun. I want to know the how's and when's. I want to know the answer to "What's the plan?"

- Sunday, A.M., May 5 Preached in St. Anne's. Was asked not to come back anymore.
- Sunday, P.M., May 5 Preached in St. John's. Deacons said "Get out and stay out.
- Sunday, A.M., May 12 Preached in St. Jude's. Can't go back there, either.
- Sunday, A.M., May 19 Preached in St. Somebody Else's. Deacons called special meeting and said I couldn't return.
- Sunday, P.M., May 19 Preached on street. Kicked off street.
- Sunday, A.M., May 26 Preached in meadow. Chased out of meadow as bull was turned loose during service.
- Sunday, A.M., June 2 Preached out at the edge of town. Kicked off the highway.
- Sunday, P.M., June 2 Afternoon, preached in a pasture. Ten thousand people came out to hear me.
The pattern of my life lately is to WAIT! If you're like me WAITING isn't fun. I want to know the how's and when's. I want to know the answer to "What's the plan?"
The key in waiting is to not become frustrated...
to rest knowing God will fulfill His promises...
to press on...persevere...and persistently seek after
all God has promised.
2 Peter 3:8-9 says, "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." NIV
In this passage, Peter addresses the imminent return of our Savior, but the application can be applied to our every day living. The truth is God is faithful; He keeps His promises.
God has called you! He has set you apart! He will fulfill all He has promised!
Psalm 145:13 says, "The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made." NIV

JUMP! I'll Catch You!
Isn't it comforting to know that the God of all the universe sees us and knows us. Lately I've been learning more and more of what faith is and what faith is not. I'm learning that:
I read a story about a father and son..."One night a house caught fire and a young boy was forced to flee to the roof. The father stood on the ground below with outstretched arms, calling to his son, "Jump! I'll catch you." He knew the boy had to jump to save his life. All the boy could see, however, was flame, smoke, and blackness. As can be imagined, he was afraid to leave the roof. His father kept yelling: "Jump! I will catch you." But the boy protested, "Daddy, I can't see you." The father replied, "But I can see you and that's all that matters." ...The Christian faith enables us to face life or meet death, not because we can see, but with the certainty that we are seen; not that we know all the answers, but that we are known." What fiery roof top are you standing on? Are you facing the fiery fury of financial ruin? Being called to jump into an unknown world of a complete life of faith? Feeling the flames of a faltering marriage?
NO MATTER the specifics...As Christians we can know that our Heavenly Father has a greater perspective than we do. He sees past all the smokescreens surrounding our lives and commands us to "JUMP! I'll catch you!"
Augustine said, "God does not expect us to submit our faith to him without reason, but the very limits of our reason make faith a necessity."
I'd like to say I never falter in my faith but sometimes I get faith turned upside down...I try to make faith something that I have "to do." But faith isn't something I need to muster up...faith resides in relationship.
1 John 4:16-18 says, "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us...There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear..." NIV
Dear Friend...God sees you right where you are. Turn your affection toward Him. Don't pick up the burden of needing to be strong enough or perfect enough. Remind yourself of the truth of His character. Turn your attention toward Who He is. Reciprocate His love. Allow Him to simply love you...as you do your burdens will lift.
God can be trusted...He will not let you down.
Faith doesn't rest in what we see but in the truth that God sees us and will take care of our every need.
Faith requires us to trust and obey God...

Is The Weight Too Much?
My eight year old son, Joshua, has been helping me pack boxes--he's such a good helper. The other day, I watched as he struggled to pick up and carry one of the boxes. Not wanting to deter his enthusiasm I quickly ran to his aid; I knew he could never pick the box up on his own; it was too big. As I lifted the box, I told Joshua how proud I was of him for helping.
As I lifted the heavy weight, I thought of God. I love how at just the right time He picks up our heavy burdens and showers us with His love.
Hebrews 13:6 says, "So, we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" NIV
What items in your life have you been trying to carry on your own? What are you struggling in your own power to move? Is the task TOO BIG to handle on your own?
Disappointment and discouragement attempt to distract us from our mission. Fear of failure and the burdens of every day living attempt to weigh us down and paralyze us from stepping forward into all God has for our lives. But the good news is God will never leave us...and He will never let us down. It's not up to us to carry the burden alone. It's NOT up to us to be SUCCESSFUL...we merely need to remain faithful...God will do the rest!
"Mark Hatfield tells of touring Calcutta with Mother Teresa and visiting the so-called "House of Dying," where sick children are cared for in their last days, and the dispensary, where the poor line up by the hundreds to receive medical attention. Watching Mother Teresa minister to these people, feeding and nursing those left by others to die, Hatfield was overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the suffering she and her co-workers face daily. "How can you bear the load without being crushed by it?" he asked. Mother Teresa replied, "My dear Senator, I am not called to be successful, I am called to be faithful." (Beyond Hunger, Beals, http://www.sermonillustrations.com/a-z/f/faithfulness.htm)
I want to encourage you today: don't worry about being successful...focus on being faithful. When you feel powerless to move the mountain in front of you remember...

"If I rely on myself, I am of most people to be pitied...for I have nothing in and of myself that makes me special...BUT...when I rely on God...I can move mountains...Because nothing is impossible for Him. Therefore, I will press on...knowing my GOD is in control!"
PRAYER: Father, lift the heaviness weighing us down. Help us get free from the weights of disappointment. Fill us with power and strength to remain faithful to do what you've called us to. Let your favor be upon us. Let your peace continue to fill us. In Jesus name we pray, amen!

The Power of Perspective!
I heard a story of a man who went to a foreign land to sell shoes. After visiting the Country, he wrote back and said the task is impossible. No one here wears shoes. Everyone is barefoot. Shortly thereafter, he returned to the States, defeated. As the story continues, the company sent another man to the same country. 24 hours after landing the man sent an email that said to...send shoes immediately...send the largest shipment you can...the need here is so great...no one owns any shoes...this is a gold mine!
We will succeed because...
I awakened today, filled with hope, excited about the opportunities awaiting me! How about you? What are you looking at? What is your perspective?
We have a decision to make. Our promise land awaits. Will we go forward and possess it? Will we be like Joshua and Caleb or will we cower like the rest of the Israelites?
In Numbers 14:6-9, "Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, "The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the LORD. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the LORD is with us. Do not be afraid of them." NIV
We know the rest of the story. The Israelites cowered and shrank back. They did not move forward and gave up on God's promise. We CANNOT make that same mistake.
Heb 10:39, "But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved." NIV
Press forward. Don't shrink back. God is faithful! He has great plans for your life...and HE CAN BE TRUSTED!
PRAYER: Father, fill us will your perspective. Overshadow all of our doubts. Lead us out of all confusion. Throw open the doors You want us to walk through! In Jesus name we pray, amen!
Perspective is powerful.
Our perspective shapes how we attack the challenges and circumstances surrounding our life.
- The enemy whispers "you will never succeed."
- Obstacles block us from moving forward shouting all the reasons we might fail;
- BUT God has given us EVERY reason to believe we will succeed.
We will succeed because...
If God is for us; who can be against us?
I awakened today, filled with hope, excited about the opportunities awaiting me! How about you? What are you looking at? What is your perspective?
We have a decision to make. Our promise land awaits. Will we go forward and possess it? Will we be like Joshua and Caleb or will we cower like the rest of the Israelites?

Hurry Up And Wait!

Hurry Up and Wait--
This phrase may be the best way to describe my travel in the Ukraine. Whether rushing to fly out of JFK's connecting flight only to be detained for 24 hours, or rushing to catch the Metro only to wait in more lines, or standing in line for hours, rushing to get our bags checked, eager to return home...only to be forced yet again to wait for connecting flights...the theme of hurry up and wait...ran through out. When I arrived in Louisville, Kentucky, I met my husband only to connect to yet another flight to Florida hoping to find our new home! Again flight delays plagued my never ending travel! LOL!
The same theme seems to be running throughout my life! I find myself busily running after the things of God only to find myself in a waiting pattern! I passionately write chapters and finish the pages of my manuscript...and then wait patiently for God to open the perfect door of publishing. I steadily pack boxes and clean our home only to wait on realtors and Home Owners Associations to approve our lease...I'm packing boxes and waiting patiently to hear if we have a home to move too! SCARY! :)
Perhaps your life is the same!
If so, I hope you find comfort in the verses God shares with me time and time again, especially in the last couple of years.
"By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going." (Hebrews 11:8)
Our journeys with God require our complete surrender and trust...So it's good to be reminded that as we step off, into what seems dark empty spaces, God always provides firm ground for our feet to land on. He orders our steps. He secures our position. He honors our faith and trust.
I love what David wrote in his later years of life: "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken..." (Psalm 37:25)
David experienced many seasons of hurry up and wait. He was anointed as king only to be found back tending the sheep...He was promised the king's daughter only to be set up by Saul...He had spears thrown at him and was pursued by a psychotic king....but eventually...as with all of God's PLANS...He was securely positioned in the Palace and served as Israel's King!
God has amazing plans for your life. His Word promises us in Genesis 28:15, "I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised."
So if your life is like mine and you feel yourself running hurriedly only to find yourself waiting...take courage! God has amazing plans and He will accomplish all that He has promised.
Habakkuk 2:2-3 says, "Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end, and it will not prove false; though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay."
So keep God's vision for your life ever before you...keep it posted in a place that you will see it and remember...keep it ever before your eyes so you can run with it! God will not let you down!
Prayer: Father, fill us with the hope that during our season of waiting...You are near. You will not abandon us. Fill us with peace. Give us strength to not grow weary...for we know in due time we will reap the harvest you have promised! Let your favor be upon us we pray, in Jesus name.

Where He Has Called
As I settle back into life from my two week trip in the Ukraine, I don't want to lose the intimacy I experienced with God, or the lessons I learned on the outreach.
The truth is God has called each one of us to be his voice, his hands, his love...we are the extension of His glory to a lost and dying world. Our "mission" exceeds far past an outreach to another nation...it continues in our day to day decisions.
Time constraints, financial pressures, household duties, and our own ambitions attempt to steal our focus and detract us from our God given mission...BUT...we have a choice...as my new dear friend Virelle Kidder writes, in her book Meet Me At The Well, published by Moody Publishers,
"Meeting Jesus can be pretty inconvenient. He stops your life and offers you a choice: Go back to your old routine, your own dead existence, or come to Him and find real Life." (pg. 31) (To purchase her book go to: http://virellekidder.com)
Jesus said, "whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." (Matthew 10:39)
For me...losing my life for Jesus, initially, couldn't have been more painful...but having resolved to serve Him has brought me the greatest joy. You may feel powerless to your circumstances, and the tasks God has called you to may seem overwhelming...But You ARE NOT ALONE! God calls each one of us uniquely...serve as missionaries, evangelists, teach Sunday School, lead in business, serve in our community, care for the elderly, home school our children...the task is NOT what is important...Obediently responding and serving WHERE HE HAS CALLED IS.
So I encourage you today, spend some time simply asking, Lord what do You will for my life? How can I serve You today? What will bring You pleasure? Let me further encourage you that God has great plans for your life; He's not trying to keep them a secret from you; He can be trusted.
Jeremiah 29:11-13, "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

The Secret of Contentment
In this latest recession and questionable depression, many of us have made alterations to our life. Very few have escaped the impact of our down turned economy.
But perhaps the changes we've been forced to make are not all bad. I know for myself, that my dependence is no longer on me but on God's provisions. My focus is no longer on fine dining and extravagant get aways but on people and their suffering. Don't get me wrong...I'm all in for a great meal and tropical locations but their hold on my life have lost their power. God has birthed a contentment in my heart and I can fully relate to Paul's testimony in Philippians 4:11-12--"I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him Who gives me strength.
So what is the secret of contentment? Is it flailing your arms into the air in complete exasperation, overwhelmed by the realization we have no other choice but to surrender? Absolutely not! Is it retreating to the position of coping through "less than desirable" circumstances waiting for sunnier days? Again...I think not!
Contentment means satisfaction...pleasure...happiness...gratification. So Paul was saying he was satisfied and grateful regardless of his circumstances...WOW!
HOW? How did he maintain his joy and grateful attitude during shipwrecks and imprisonments? Where did his power come from? What was his secret?
When the Apostle Paul wrote that he learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, he finished with the powerful statement..."I can do everything through HIM Who gives me strength."
One of the greatest struggles I face in my flesh is the attitude of "ENTITLEMENT". Perhaps the feeling of entitlement is one of the greatest battles we face in the United States. We've had so much that it's hard to imagine life without it. After spending two weeks in Kiev in the Ukraine, I've witnessed amazing people who owned very little but who possessed great freedom--having learned the lesson of godly contentment.
Timothy 6:6-10 says, "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith, and have pierced themselves with many griefs.
You see, having money is not evil, and enjoying the finer things in life is NOT wrong...we can possess many things...the trouble comes when the things we possess begin to possess us. The issue of entitlement leaves little room for humility. Taking PRIDE or OWNERSHIP in what we have or being JEALOUS at the possessions or gifts of others makes it difficult to be thankful or grateful for what God has given us.
Godly contentment crosses boundaries more vast than financial prosperity or wealth...it stretches into our attitude of gifts, marriages, family, and calling.
The Godly contentment Paul refers to, comes in recognizing everything we have and everything we do comes directly from God...it's all His...we are merely stewards...our hope...our trust...our happiness comes directly from Him.
Don't get me wrong...I love the freedom we have in the United States to run passionately after our dreams and passions...Further, I truly believe God loves to give good gifts to His children...the problem arises when we fail to master our passions and our desires consume our happiness. The issue arises when we can only be comforted by our "possessions" or our "positions". When feelings of entitlement sway our allegiance to comfort and pleasure rather than humility and stewardship...we can be sure we have a sin needing to be addressed.
You see, entitlement whispers you deserve a better spouse...take the easy way out...you deserve the affection being offered by another...and the love of pleasure spins its web into GREAT deceit.
Entitlement murmurs you should have gotten that recognition...you're far superior to them...and jealousy and resentment take root in our lives birthing dissension.
Entitlement rationalizes sin, excuses bad attitudes, and justifies poor behavior...the apostle Paul learned the secret of squelching the strongholds of "entitlement" by recognizing and declaring...I can do all things through Him who gives me strength. Contentment can NOT be faked...it's birthed in our allegiance and abandonment in our love for God.
So I want to encourage you to run passionately after the dreams God's put in your heart...hunger for all He has called you to...pursue Him with all your heart and ask Him for great and marvellous things...but remember to PURSUE HIM above ALL THINGS! Proverbs 19:23 encourages us that fearing or having reverence for the Lord leads to life...
"The fear of the Lord leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble."

Taking Each Moment at a Time
Take a moment and breathe! Go on...breathe in...breathe out!
With everything going on lately, I find the need to remind myself to breathe...to take each moment at a time.
Jesus gave great advice in Matthew 6:34; He said, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
I can almost see His smile, comforting His disciples, jesting that problems will always exist in our life...but they will always work themselves out. His words encourage us to live each day trusting God to take care of our every need!
How easy would life be if we could just keep this thought at the forefront of our minds...to serve God and trust Him to take care of all the details. Don't get me wrong...I'm not suggesting we throw caution to the wind or lazily sit back expecting God to throw gold into our lap...but I am suggesting to not live fearful, and that we seek His will and not cower at impossibilities. If God has spoken...He will provide.
We serve an amazing God. What is He calling you to?
I am committed to live each day, seeking Him. I want to know His plans for my life. I will not faint or grow weary. I will not cower to the tasks that lay ahead. I am resolved to serve Him. When He says go...I will go. When He says wait...I will wait. When He says to not worry...I will trust Him...regardless of the circumstances. I owe Him that much!
I encourage you to spend a few moments each day reminding yourself of the truth. Who has God said you are? What has He promised you? Speak that truth out loud to remind yourself of the truth. And then thank God for His promises.
He has great plans for each and every one of us! And...He is faithful to fulfill all of His promises!
Be blessed today...knowing God's got it all under control!
PRAYER: Father cover us with Your grace. Let Your favor rest upon us. Help us to do and to accomplish everything You have called us to! Let Your will be done on earth, and in our lives, as it is in HEAVEN!

I'm Back...And Missed You All!
Dobry ye ute! That's Good morning in Russian (at least how it sounds--I question my spelling...LOL). It feels so good to be back! So much has transpired in the last 3 weeks.
Before I share a little about my trip I want to thank Sandy for posting such wonderful content in my absence...you did an amazing job. Thank you! I know my friends were blessed.
Today as I sat at my computer, preparing to share a little about my trip and offer words of encouragement, I felt overwhelmed by the power of God. He's taught me so many powerful lessons in these past few weeks. Perhaps the greatest lesson I've learned is one of complete surrender and humility.
God has amazing plans for each one of our lives. Personally, I'd like a detailed map and an audible voice saying, "Go to this city, and do this venture." But instead, God calls me to simply fall back into His arms and through His Word whispers "Trust Me". HE IS FAITHFUL!
As I ministered in the Ukraine, I watched amazing people serve God in complete humility. They didn't have much but served God and loved His people.
I watched a man by the name of Genna, kneel down and bandage up wounds of people living on the street. He gently applied antibiotic cream to a leg that looked as though it needed amputated.
I witnessed a woman, diagnosed with aids and hepatitis C, be filled with God's Holy Spirit so greatly that she fell forward under His gentle yet powerful presence...
God filled another with his joy...it was so amazing to watch Him break years of strongholds over her life!
I also had the privilege of leading 3 people to receive the Lord. It was amazing.
In one conference I had the privilege of speaking to amazing women, representing over 9 nations! WOW...that was powerful. I met with many of them one on one and listened as they shared their testimonies and God's call on their lives.
The message God instructed me to share with them inspired them to follow through with His call...it was amazing to be used by God so powerfully. I am filled with joy thinking of the nations that will be touched through each of their lives!
Each day on the trip, I awoke having no real idea how God would use me, but I made myself available. Each day God performed amazing miracles. So as I came back to the States, I spent time trying to discern God's lessons. I asked God to reveal what He wanted me to not forget. There are two things...
The first is Surrender--God can be trusted. I really have no power on my own. I like to think I'm in control but in actuality...my life is God's. Even when things feel completely out of control...I know I can trust Him. He is working in ways I could never imagine. The good news is...He is for us. And if God is for us...Who can stand against us! It's so much better to simply trust Him. His ways are higher than ours and in a second He does the impossible. What we are powerless to change...He changes in a second. And it's good to know He loves us. Regardless of our circumstances...He really is in control and is working ALL things together for our good!
The second is Intentionality--I want to live life intentionally...to be intentional in my relationships...to be intentional in how I respond with my words...to be intentional to discover the needs of those around me. To be completely abandoned to what God is calling me to do...regardless of the cost! To pay attention to my family, my friends, and to passer-bys! I'm convinced I witnessed God's amazing power on this trip because I expected Him to move and needed His divine intervention each day. Coming back to the States...I realized nothing should change about my life. I'm still on a mission. I'm still called by God. I still need Him in my relationships. And I need His direction more than ever.
A Final Thought: Friends, God HAS AMAZING PLANS for your life! He has called you to be HIS witness! He will never leave you or forsake you. His plans are to bless and not harm you. Plans to give you HOPE and a FUTURE!
