The other day I was walking in the store when a lady frantically waved her arms in the air and came running in my direction. I smiled, thinking to myself, Who is this women and why is she so happy to see me? I waved back and began praying, Lord help me to know who this women is. Much to my embarrassment, after waving back at her and acting as equally glad to see this young women, she ran passed me to embrace a different person about 5 feet from behind me. I literally laughed out loud and turned quickly down another aisle.
Perspective is everything. Sometimes we really think something is happening...when in fact...it isn't. Sometimes I get so lost in my circumstances that I forget to remind myself of the truth.
Yesterday, as I sat in church, the Holy Spirit prompted a thought in my mind. I saw a picture of a mountaing top. One by one, God was picking up people from the valley below and was placing them on the top of the mountain. I felt Him nudge me in my thoughts that sometimes our circumstances don't change but that if we will allow Him, He will change our perspective. He'll allow us to see the beauty of the valley from the top of the mountain--and help us to remember the BIGGER picture of life.
As Christians, we should operate from the truth of who we are in Christ and remember the facts. The facts are that:
We are loved and we are the children of God: 1 John 3:1,"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God ! And that is what we are!..."NIV
We will one day leave this world and be made to be like Him: 1 John 3:2-3,"Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him , for we shall see him as he is."NIV
We have no need to fear because He is with us: Isa 43:1-3,"Fear not , for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters,I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. 3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;" NIV
Today, what is your perspective? Remember Who you serve. Believe for the impossible. Trust God. Whether in the valley or on the mountaintop...God is faithful!
Rom 12:1-2, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind . Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — his good, pleasing and perfect will."NIV
Prayer: Father, forgive us when we doubt. Fill us with hope and power. Change our perspective and help us to remember the truth. Let our faith always be strong. We desire to please You so fill us with Your Holy Spirit that we might live a life of faith and honor You.
So many times in a day we can make faulty assumptions that lead us to wrong thinking! Renewing our minds in The Word, turns us around. The more I practice the better I become at applying the truth, and the quicker the Lord reminds me! Phil 4:8.
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!!
Hi Julie,
ReplyDeleteI love the picture of God picking us up out of the valley and placing us on the mountain top and how that changes our perspective. I think He not only wants us to have a changed perspective, but wants to help us get it.
Now, with that picture firmly in my mind, maybe I can spend more time watching for Him than I do watching for trouble!
Love your writing -- thanks for allowing God to use you.
