David Viscott wrote, "The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The meaning of life is to give it away."
What brings you joy? What fills you with expectation and hope? If you could do one thing and make your living at it, what would it be? What one thing would you do whether you were ever paid or not?
Your answer, to these questions, can help you discover your gifts, talents, and passions.
Interestingly enough in Matthew 25 Jesus tells a parable about three men, one with 5 talents (which was actually a term used for their currency), one with 2 talents, and one with one talent. The person with five talents responds to His master and says I have earned five more and the master replies well done good and faithful servant. The person with two talents responds to His master and says I have earned two more and the master replies well done good and faithful servant. (I love this, there is no partiality...no greater praise offered to the one with five talents verses the one with only two talents.)
Which just goes to show it doesn't matter how much we have to offer, what mattters is that we are using our gifts to bring our master glory.
God doesn't want us to hide our gifts; He wants us to employ them, to invest them, to attempt to use them for Him in whatever way we know possible.
You may feel unworthy; you may feel untalented; But remember this...
(Ps 139:14-16)You are fearfully and wonderfully made;
All of God's works are wonderful,
Your frame was not hidden from God,
when you were made and woven together God's eyes saw your unformed body.
All the days ordained for you life were written in His book before time even began.
Begin thinking how you can take the things that you love to do and use it for God's glory. If you like to cook...cook a meal for someone in need. If you like to sew, make something who needs provision. If you like to write, send someone a word of encouragement. If you like to dance, grab your child and give them a whirl! LOL.
BUT, "Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all to the glory of God, in Christ Jesus." And remember, You are made in God's image, and are amazing in every way.
